How Your Pelvic Floor Can Cause PGAD
- Tension and Tightness: Overly tight pelvic floor muscles can cause direct pain or increase sensitivity in the genital area.
- Weak Muscles: Weakness in the pelvic floor can result in inadequate support, exacerbating discomfort during various activities.
- Muscle Spasms: Involuntary spasms in these muscles can trigger sudden, intense discomfort.
- Nerve Compression: Improper muscle function can compress nerves, leading to persistent pain in the pelvic region.
- Reduced Blood Flow: Dysfunctional pelvic floor muscles can impair circulation, causing pain due to decreased oxygen and nutrient delivery.
How Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy Can Help
- Significantly reduce or eliminate genital arousal and associated discomfort
- Enhance sexual function by addressing physical factors contributing to dysfunction
- Improve your quality of life by managing symptoms, enabling better participation in daily activities
What to Expect During Your Sessions
During Your Initial Appointment
Next, we’ll conduct a detailed physical exam from head to toe, paying close attention to any areas of discomfort. This includes both external and internal evaluations of your pelvic floor muscles to pinpoint the root causes of your symptoms and work on reducing your pain and discomfort.
During this evaluation, we use manual techniques on the pelvic structures—muscles, nerves, and bones. Your comfort is our top priority during these sessions, and remember, you’re in control—you can opt out of any part of the treatment at any time, no questions asked.
